Who am I kidding, it's been forever. Honestly, I didn't even think I would ever come back to post anything in this blog. I'm so outdated with Japanese songs lately. But it so happened that my favorite band, DAY6, is releasing a Japanese song and I just had to translate it.
I posted it in my Twitter (@onionleader) few days ago but I realized that it may not pop up in Google searches so yeah, hello Blogger.
UPDATE: For a set of all translations from the album UNLOCK, check this link >> UNLOCK
Much love,
Jia.
Japanese Lyrics
Kimi ga nokoshita kotoba mada
Kono mune uzuiteru
Machi de nita you na ko wo mite
wa
Aseru jibun ni iraku tsuita
Konagona ni kudakita memory
Kantan ni modoru wake nai jan
Moshimo guuzen bokura ga
Kono machi no katasumi de
surechigattemo
Kitto mou kao mo shiranai
Tanin no youni toorisugiru dake
sa
Tatoeba mata meguriau toshitemo
Nanoni kimi wa itta “mata aetara”
Sousa bokura wa onaji kurai
aishite kizutsuketa
Kari ni yarinaoseta toshite mo
Kitto onaji ketsumasu sa
Sanzan ni koboreochita pieces
Nidoto mitaku wa nai kara
Moshimo itsuka bokura ga
Chigau dareka to koi ni ochita no
nara
Itami mo kanashimi sae mo
Omoide no naka wasuresareru hazu
sa
Matsuwaritsuita ano hi no kotoba
Furidashita ame ga kakikesu youni
You and I, I guess we didn’t know
what it meant
When we said “I’ll love you till
the end”
Should have added “if” or
something like it
Mou modorenai
Oh wow, I wish I never knew you
baby
All the things I could’ve done
instead of being
Down and frowning, wanting you
back and whining
For way too long, I was hiding
For way too long, I was hiding
Moshimo guuzen bokura ga
Kono machi no katasumi de
surechigattemo
Kitto mou kao mo shiranai
Tanin no youni toorisugiru dake
sa
Tatoeba mata meguriau toshitemo
Nanoni kimi wa itta “mata aetara”
English Translation
The words you left are still
Throbbing deep inside my heart
When I see someone that resembles you in the streets
It makes me flustered and irritated
The memories that had been smashed into pieces
Can’t be restored easily
If by chance, we happen to
Run into each other in the corners of this city
Surely, I won’t recognize your face anymore
And we’ll just pass each other like strangers
Even if we happen to meet again
Nonetheless, you said “if we meet again”
That’s right – we loved and hurt each other equally
Even if we can do it all over again temporarily
We’ll only meet the same end
Because I don’t want to see for the second time
The pieces that had been completely smashed
If someday both of us
Fall in love with a different person
The pain and the sadness
Should be left behind, in memories
Let the heavy downpour erase
The words that keeps lingering from that day
You and I, I guess we didn’t know what it meant
When we said “I’ll love you till the end”
Should have added “if” or something like it
We can't go back now
Oh wow, I wish I never knew you baby
All the things I could’ve done instead of being
Down and frowning, wanting you back, and whining
For way too long, I was hiding
If by chance, we happen toDown and frowning, wanting you back, and whining
For way too long, I was hiding
Run into each other in the corners of this city
Surely, I won’t recognize your face anymore
And we’ll just pass each other like strangers
Even if we happen to meet again
Nonetheless, you said “if we meet again”
Thank you so much. Day6 fan over here.
ReplyDeleteYoure welcome, from a fellow DAY6 fan!! c:
Deletei. i just want to say that this is such a beautiful translation??? it honestly conveys the emotion so well and in such a poetic and non-literal way, unlike other translations... i mean, i don't speak japanese so i can't really say for sure, but dang, this was done so well! thank you so much for this ^^
ReplyDeletewow hello and thank you for your review!! DAY6's lyrics are always poetic regardless of the language and it was an adventure trying to translate but I had fun doing it! :D
DeleteI just want to say thank you for providing us with these lyrics + translations. I love DAY6 and their Japanese album "UNLOCK" is one of my favourite. I wish that they sing these songs outside Japan and my dream is that I can hear them singing the songs live. Thanks again
ReplyDeleteThank you for leaving a comment! I second that, DAY6's Japanese discography is just too good ;-; I can only imagine how they would sound live
